Smart Statements is a browser-based financial analysis tool. We built it with a single guiding principle: your financial data is yours alone. This document explains what happens to your data when you use the app, what we share with third-party services, and the terms under which you may use the service.

The short version: Your bank statement is processed by an AI model to extract transactions. Nothing is stored on our servers — not your file, not your transactions, not your results. Once your browser session ends, everything is gone.

When you upload a bank statement, the following information is processed:

• The contents of your uploaded PDF file
• Transaction dates, descriptions, and amounts
• Account holder name and bank name (if present in the file)
• Opening and closing balances (if present in the file)

We do not collect:

• Your name, email address, or any contact information
• Account numbers, card numbers, or login credentials
• IP addresses or device fingerprints
• Cookies or cross-session tracking identifiers

Important:When you upload a PDF bank statement, we send the file to OpenAI's API for text extraction and transaction parsing. This means your statement is transmitted to OpenAI's servers during processing.

We use LLM, operated by OpenAI, L.L.C., to read your PDF and extract structured transaction data. This is necessary because PDF bank statements come in hundreds of proprietary formats that cannot be reliably parsed with rules alone.

What OpenAI receives: your PDF file, transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection. OpenAI's API usage policies state that data submitted via the API is not used to train their models by default.

What we do not do: we do not store the file or the extracted data on our servers after the API call completes. The result is returned directly to your browser and the request ends.

PDF files are parsed entirely within your browser using JavaScript and are never sent to any external server.

If you are uncomfortable sharing your statement with OpenAI, please convert it to PDF format before uploading. The analysis will be equally thorough.

Smart Statements has no database. There is no backend that stores user records, statement history, or analysis results.

• Analysis results are held in your browser's sessionStorage only. They are automatically erased when you close the tab.
• Your uploaded file is read into memory for parsing and then discarded — it is never written to disk on our side.
• No analytics, logging, or monitoring service records your statement content.

We do not retain, sell, share, or monetise your financial data in any form, to any party, at any time.

Because we store nothing about you, most conventional data-rights requests (access, correction, deletion) are satisfied automatically — there is simply no record to access, correct, or delete.
